Irish Dancing |

The Irish Dancers perform live on
stage every Friday and Saturday night at
Frank O’Dowd’s Irish Pub & Grill in Galena,
Illinois. The vibrant performances are 20 to
25 minutes long and consist of soft and hard
shoe sets.
Based on the Irish peasant dress worn two
hundred years ago, each dancer’s costume
features a pleated skirt which is
embroidered with interlocking and continuous
lines of Celtic designs. A re-creation of
the Tara brooch is fastened on the shoulder.
The brooch holds a cape which falls over the
dancer’s back.
Sets begin with soft shoe dances. The
dancers’ quick precise movements of the feet
excite the crowd. Next the dancers change
into hard shoes and the rhythmic dancing
inspire those watching to clap along to the
music, stomp their feet and yell “woo-hoo.”
After the dancers have completed their
routines, the live entertainment continues.
Beginning at 8:00 p.m. on weekends, the Pub
rings with excitement as well-known Irish
musicians take the stage. There is no cover
charge to enjoy the entertainment.
Authentic Irish dance and music are just a
few of the many ways The Irish Cottage tells
the story of Ireland’s rich culture.
